Yes, AfinilExpress shut down permanently in early 2019 and the website operating at that domain today is an unauthorized clone. The three current vendors that actually replaced it are FreeModafinil for global delivery, ModafinilXL for the broadest product range, and ModafinilUSA for US domestic shipping in 3 to 5 days.
Important: The afinilexpress.com domain returned online in late 2025 claiming to be "the original" returned from a temporary shutdown.
The founding team confirmed permanent voluntary retirement in 2019 and stated they would not return under any name. Anyone currently using the AfinilExpress brand is doing so without authorization. I do not recommend ordering from that site.
What Actually Happened to AfinilExpress
AfinilExpress launched in late 2016 as one of two vendors endorsed by ModafinilCat when ModafinilCat closed. I placed my first order with them in November 2016, four months after ModafinilCat shut down.
They earned the endorsement. Six out of seven orders I placed with them delivered successfully across two and a half years. Average delivery time was 14 days to my address.
AfinilExpress was also the first vendor to accept Visa and Mastercard, introduced in mid-2017. Before that, Bitcoin was essentially mandatory for buying modafinil online.
The founders announced permanent retirement in early 2019. The seventh order, placed just before shutdown, was refunded in full within three days. That clean closure is rare in this market.

Modafinil has been FDA-approved since 1998 for narcolepsy. It blocks dopamine reuptake in the brain's focus and motivation pathways. It also activates orexin and histamine systems that regulate the sleep-wake cycle.
The practical effect: 10 to 12 hours of alertness without the jitter or crash of amphetamines. Most people take 100mg or 200mg before 10am and feel sharp until early evening.

Reorder timing: A 30-pill pack lasts about 6 weeks on a 5-days-on, 2-days-off cycle. Most regular users reorder every 6 to 8 weeks.

The closest legal alternatives are armodafinil (sold as Waklert or Artvigil), which is the R-enantiomer of modafinil with a longer duration. Adrafinil is a prodrug that converts to modafinil in the liver but stresses the liver and is now banned in several countries.
For non-prescription nootropics, caffeine plus L-theanine is the most studied stack. It is not as strong as modafinil but has no comedown.
Can an online doctor prescribe modafinil?
Yes. US telehealth services like Klarity Health and Done can issue modafinil prescriptions for off-label focus use after a video consultation. Cost is typically $50 to $150 for the consultation, then $30 to $80 per pill at a US pharmacy even with insurance.

Without a prescription, US pharmacies will not dispense modafinil. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Brand-name Provigil is roughly $1,200 for 30 tablets at US retail. Generic modafinil at US pharmacies is $30 to $80 with insurance.
Generic modafinil shipped from licensed Indian manufacturers (Sun Pharma's Modalert, HAB Pharma's Modvigil) is $0.79 to $1.50 per pill depending on the vendor and pack size. This is the same active ingredient.
Is the new afinilexpress.com legit?
No. The original AfinilExpress team confirmed permanent retirement in early 2019 and stated they would not return under any name. The site at afinilexpress.com today launched in late 2025 and uses the original brand name without authorization.
I have not test-ordered from that domain and do not recommend it. Use the three verified vendors listed above instead.
What happened to DuckDose and ModafinilCat?
ModafinilCat closed in mid-2016 after payment processor pressure. They endorsed AfinilExpress and DuckDose as successors.
